He who guards his mouth and his tongue, Guards his soul from troubles. – Proverbs 21:23

You can deliver yourself from the snares/lusts of this life by practicing self-control.  Self-control is the ability to control oneself, in particular one’s emotions and desires or the expression of them in one’s behavior, especially in difficult situations.

“How do I do that?”,  well I’m glad you asked. In 1 John 4:4 it says, “You, dear children, are from God and have over come them, because the one who lives in you is greater than the one who is in the world”.

The Holy Spirit, which lives in us, empowers us to resist any temptation/lust of the world if we yield to Him.

Apostle Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica on how they should live, “that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;” (1 Thessalonians 4:4-5).

Paul, was telling them to live in a way that please God. One way to please God with our life is to practice self-control. Self-control is achieved when we deny ourselves those things which do not promote the goodness of God.

Self-control, is when you bite your tongue and say, “I WILL NOT RESPOND”, “I WILL NOT DO THAT”, “I WILL NOT MAKE A COMMENT”, “I WILL PASS ON THAT ONE”.

Let’s practice applying the brakes on our fleshly desires.
